Fire Nancy Pelosi!
I’ve been away for a while. So many things have transpired, both in the world and in my own life that I’ve been itching to write about, but to be frank I think I reached a point where I just stopped bothering. It seemed as if the bad guys were winning all the time, and the people of this nation were just getting stupider and more apathetic by the day. If I’d just started every blog with a headline reading “Lindsay Lohan snorts another line” or slapped a photo of Katy Perry’s tits on my page like some of these Youtube assholes do to get me to click on their video – only to see some annoying little prick with a chipmunk voice screaming at the top of his lungs about who the fuck knows what – then my blogs might have an effect. But now I’m back, and I’m here to reach out to teh internetz, because Ive got news to share with you.
As a member of the Green party I’ve had little love for the majority of Democrats now in office. Many are just as complicit as Republicans in delivering OUR government to unaccountable corporations. This year, while the Tea Party ousted Republicans from their fold, progressives got rid of the corporate “Blue Dog” Democrats. Many still remain.
Nancy Pelosi has been a lightning rod of negative attention to the progressive cause, while not being very progressive at all. She’s a career politician who makes decisions based on political calculation and corporate pressure. She was “duped” into voting for two illegal wars and kept impeachment of the Bush administration “off the table”. But we don’t have to put up with her any more. In 2012, we have a shot at having San Franciscans being represented by a true progressive – if we’re willing to put in work.
My friend and CCA colleague Américo Diaz is running for California’s 8th Congressional District for the House of Representatives as a write-in candidate for the Democratic party – that’s Nancy Pelosi’s seat. He’s 26 years old, born and raised here in SF, Cali. I’ve known Américo for roughly 8 years now, since our days at college and since day one, I’ve rarely come across anybody more upstanding and full of integrity, the kind of people we desperately NEED in Washington. After speaking with him and getting a feel for his stance on some of the more important issues – the economy, taxes, the environment, etc – I’m proud to be able to say that I’m offering his grassroots campaign my support and asking everybody to do the same. Doesn’t matter what party you belong to; if you believe in taking our government back from big business and putting the power back in YOUR hands, you belong in this campaign.
